Short Excursions in Monemvasia

Monemvasia

Aghios Ioannis: Excellent tavernas, and wonderful hors-d'oeuvres (10minutes from Monemvassia).

Gerakas Port: Picturesque fiord with traditional fish tavernas (20 minutes from Monemvassia)

Plytra: Ancient city which was covered after a strong earthquake. Today, you can see with the naked eye the remains of the city. Pristine beach of the Lacedomonia Bay (20 minutes from Monemvassia).

Elafonissos

Elafonissos: One of the best-known and cleanest beaches on the shores of the Mediterranean, with turquoise waters and fine white sand.  Connection from Neapolis with small ferry boats (60 minutes from Monemvassia).

Kastania Cave:  Accidentally discovered in 1958 by speleologists. One of the most beautiful underground caves of Greece and Northeastern Europe. It opened to the public in September of 2003. (After Neapolis towards Kavo Malea about 80 minutes from Monemvassia).

Parnonas: For lovers of nature with great trails and some snow in winter. Visit the villages Cosmas and Tzitzina (Polidrosso). (60 minutes from Monemvasia).

Kyparissi:  picturesque fishing village after Gerakas. Known as a holiday destination of Princess Diana. (80 minutes from Monemvassia).

Upon leaving don't forget to stop at the olive-tree museum in Sparta and to visit Mystras.
